Ruling in the lawsuit filed by Ahmet Özer to return to the Esenyurt Mayoralty: Can Aksoy had been appointed as trustee
The Istanbul 9th Administrative Court has rejected the request to annul the decision to remove Ahmet Özer from his position as Mayor of Esenyurt and to appoint Istanbul Deputy Governor Can Aksoy as Acting Mayor in his place.
In its ruling issued on February 6, the Istanbul 9th Administrative Court recalled that Ahmet Özer had been sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison by the Istanbul 14th High Criminal Court for the crime of "being a member of the armed terrorist organization PKK/KCK."
The ruling stated that Ahmet Özer had filed a lawsuit at the Istanbul 9th Administrative Court, claiming that the aforementioned action was unlawful and requesting the cancellation of the suspension decision.
In its decision to reject the case, the administrative court noted that there was no illegality in the process of appointing Istanbul Deputy Governor Can Aksoy as the Acting Mayor of Esenyurt.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
An arrest warrant had been issued for Ahmet Özer within the scope of an investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on charges of "being a member of the PKK/KCK armed terrorist organization."
During this process, Özer was suspended from his duties by the Ministry of Interior, and Istanbul Deputy Governor Can Aksoy was appointed as the Acting Mayor of Esenyurt.
Özer had filed a lawsuit at the Istanbul 9th Administrative Court, claiming that the action was unlawful and requesting the cancellation of the suspension decision.
The Istanbul 14th High Criminal Court, which concluded the case on January 23, had sentenced Özer to 6 years and 3 months in prison for the crime of "being a member of the armed terrorist organization PKK/KCK."
