Russian Consul General in Istanbul Buravov: We maintain a stance in favor of ensuring Syria's territorial integrity
Andrey Buravov, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Istanbul, addressed Russia's international role, its BRICS membership, and its stance on Syria's territorial integrity during a year-end press conference. Buravov stated that Russia is contributing to the formation of a multipolar world order and is taking measures to minimize civilian casualties in the conflict in Ukraine.
Russian Federation Consul General in Istanbul Andrey Buravov discussed relations between Russia and Turkey and evaluated the current situation in Syria during a year-end press conference.
In his speech, Buravov made assessments regarding Russia's international standing and regional policies, stating: "Despite the severe sanctions, political, economic, and military pressure applied, Russia continues to be an influential member of the world community, both by ensuring the necessary conditions for the further socioeconomic development of our country and by actively participating in the formation process of a new and fairer multipolar world order based on the principles of sovereign equality and mutual respect."

Emphasizing Russia's contribution to the Eurasian Economic Union, Buravov said the following regarding developments in cooperation this year: "The Eurasian Economic Union constitutes the core and most advanced form of regional economic integration with Russia's participation. Cooperation in this format has developed this year, both with an increase in the volume of interaction and a qualitative improvement in its mechanisms. Together with like-minded Global South countries, Russia has actively participated in the formation of a fairer, multipolar world order, strictly adhering to international law rather than the specific rules imposed by the West based solely on its own interests and attempts to maintain its global dominance."
Buravov also stated that Russia has taken significant steps during its BRICS chairmanship, adding: "Relevant proposals have been made to more than 10 countries, and the relevant list will be announced to the public once their approvals are received."
Touching upon the conflict in Ukraine, Buravov noted that additional measures have been taken for the safety of civilian citizens and said the following regarding the progress of the Russian armed forces: "As for the situation of the Russian Special Military Operation forces in the war zone, I would like to state that the Russian armed forces continue to advance confidently along the entire front line in Donbas and Novorossiya. New settlements are being liberated practically every day. At the same time, necessary measures are being taken to minimize harm to the civilian population."
At the end of the meeting, answering questions about Syria's territorial integrity, Buravov reiterated Russia's Syria policies, saying: "We have always advocated for this and continue to do so. Therefore, we continue to act in a way that countries neighboring Syria display a responsible attitude and do not engage in situations that could jeopardize or create danger for this territorial integrity. Our stance on this matter remains the same."
