Russian gas crisis: Peskov warns Europe of 'high prices'
Kremlin Spokesperson Peskov stated that Ukraine's decision not to extend the natural gas transit agreement will cost European consumers dearly. Peskov also emphasized that alternative gas routes via Turkey are being evaluated.
Kremlin Spokesperson Peskov held a press conference in the capital, Moscow.
Evaluating the statement made yesterday by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding the non-extension of the natural gas transit agreement with Russia, which expires at the end of 2024, Peskov said:
“Of course, such decisions by the Ukrainian side will cause serious damage to the interests of European consumers; these consumers would likely prefer to purchase Russian gas, which is more economically guaranteed and more favorable in terms of price parameters compared to other products coming from the US. They will simply have to pay much more, and thus their industries will become less competitive.”
OUR ALTERNATIVE ROUTE IS TURKEY
When asked by journalists about what alternatives exist for supplying gas to the relevant countries, Peskov stated, “There are alternative routes. As you know, there are plans to create a hub in Turkey, this is being worked on, so there are alternative routes.”
