Saadet Party visits Can Atalay
Following the visit, Group Deputy Chairman Bülent Kaya stated, "We hope that this process will be the beginning of a journey toward Turkey becoming a state governed by the rule of law."
Saadet Party Group Deputy Chairman Bülent Kaya and Kütahya MP Ali Fazıl Kasap visited TİP Hatay MP Can Atalay, who is being held in Silivri Prison. Speaking to the ANKA Agency after the visit, Kaya said the following:
"On May 14, 2023, 600 members of parliament were elected to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). One of them was our deputy Şerafettin Can Atalay, who was elected from Hatay. Unfortunately, despite the time that has passed, the Constitutional Court's ruling, and the clear provisions of the Constitution, Şerafettin Can Atalay is still in prison."
"We hope that this process will come to a positive conclusion as soon as possible and that it will be the beginning of a process where Turkey moves toward becoming a state governed by the rule of law. God willing, we desire to see our esteemed deputy take his oath, begin his duties, and join us when the TBMM reconvenes on January 16."
"Turkey must be a state governed by the rule of law and must continue its path as such. Stating that opposition to this is a futile effort, we, as the Saadet Party, express that we are against this lawless situation."
IT IS A LEGAL TRAVESTY
Kasap, who spoke after Kaya, expressed the following:
"It is a legal travesty that our friend, who was elected by the votes of the people and is a member of parliament, is still being held in prison due to politicized judicial decisions when he should be taking the floor in parliament immediately. It is essential for this lawless approach, which remains far from justice, to end as soon as possible, for our people to live in accordance with universal legal principles, and for Turkey to revive economically in every aspect."
