Sacrificial animal market heats up ahead of Eid al-Adha: Prices and dates announced

The activity surrounding sacrificial animals, which began shortly after the end of Ramadan Bayram, has brought vitality to animal markets across Turkey. Citizens wishing to perform the sacrifice are starting negotiations with farmers early to find the best prices and the best animals in the markets. With the announcement of sacrificial animal prices this year following Ramadan Bayram, the intensity in the market has increased even further.

Prices for small livestock start at 20 thousand TL and can go up to 45 thousand TL. For cattle, the live weight price is expected to be between 400 and 450 TL.

An average 600-kilogram head of cattle is being sold for up to approximately 270 thousand TL at these prices. Slaughtering and butchering services are also generally carried out on the market grounds.

While sellers are sharing current figures so that citizens are informed about prices, buyers are trying to find the option that best fits their budgets. The activity in the sacrificial animal markets signals a season that has started early for both sellers and buyers.

According to the statement by the Presidency of Religious Affairs, the eve of Eid al-Adha in 2026 is planned for Tuesday, May 26. The first day of the holiday will begin on Wednesday, May 27, and will last for four days. The holiday will end on Saturday, May 30.

Sacrificial animal sellers estimate that demand will increase especially one week before the holiday, noting that those who purchase early may find animals at more affordable prices. The markets will remain open with high interest every day until Eid al-Adha.
