Sad news from a master of Yeşilçam! Suphi Tekniker has passed away

Suphi Tekniker, who began his acting career as an extra in the "King Lear" play at the Istanbul City Theaters and appeared in hundreds of theater plays and Yeşilçam films as an actor and screenwriter, has passed away. The Istanbul City Theaters announced the news of the master actor's passing.

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of our master Suphi Tekniker.

Tekniker, who stepped onto the stage as an extra in the play King Lear at the Istanbul City Theater in 1960 with the encouragement of our founder Muhsin Ertuğrul, later proved his success on stage with the leading roles he played in theater, and subsequently successfully continued his artistic journey as a screenwriter for many films, especially those starring masters such as Şener Şen, Kemal Sunal, and İlyas Salman, as well as an actor in theater and cinema, once said in an interview: 'The City Theater is my joy. If I were to come to the world again, I would come to the City Theaters again, and I would want to live the same life in the same way. I would want to be a theater actor.'

As we bid farewell to Suphi Tekniker on his eternal journey, we, as the Istanbul City Theater Family, wish God's mercy upon our master and extend our condolences to his family, our art community, his loved ones, and his fans."

WHO IS SUPHİ TEKNİKER?

Suphi Tekniker was born on January 10, 1940, in Mersin. After graduating from Mersin High School, he graduated from the Department of Geography at Istanbul University's Faculty of Letters.

Suphi Tekniker, who had his first stage experience as an extra in the play King Lear at the Istanbul City Theater in 1960 with the encouragement of Muhsin Ertuğrul, later proved his success on stage with the leading roles he played in theater.

He was chosen as the male model of the year by Ses Magazine and appeared in Yeşilçam films. He later worked as a screenwriter for many films, especially those starring masters such as Şener Şen, Kemal Sunal, and İlyas Salman. Tekniker, who also successfully continued his artistic journey as an actor in theater and cinema, had stated in an interview: "The City Theater is my joy. If I were to come to the world again, I would come to the City Theaters again, and I would want to live the same life in the same way. I would want to be a theater actor."

He performed in hundreds of theater plays over 46 years. In 1969, he performed as a guest actor in Hamlet and Kırk Kırat at the Kenter Theater. A year later, he returned to the City Theater.

Without leaving theater acting, he began receiving and accepting film offers starting in 1962. He first acted in nearly a hundred films with many directors such as Atıf Yılmaz, Memduh Ün, Halit Refiğ, Süreyya Duru, Orhan Aksoy, Orhan Elmas, Ertem Eğilmez, Osman Seden, Zeki Ökten, Tunç Başaran, and Feyzi Tuna. Later, he worked with the same masters as a screenwriter.

He began his cinema acting career in 1960 with the film "Cici Kâtibem," written by Erdoğan Tünaş and starring Orhan Günşiray, Fatma Girik, and Suphi Kaner. He acted in films that left their mark on Yeşilçam such as "Ezo Gelin, Tarkan: Gümüş Eyer, and Meçhul Kadın," and served as a screenwriter for many films such as "Tokatçı and Hanzo."
