Şamil Tayyar criticizes AKP Deputy Group Chair: We must first prick ourselves
The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) convened today under the chairmanship of Deputy Speaker Tekin Bingöl. Following two roll calls that failed to reach a quorum, the session was adjourned just 20 minutes after opening. AKP member Tayyar reacted to this development in a post on his social media account.
When the General Assembly adjourned due to a lack of a quorum, AKP Deputy Group Chair Leyla Şahin Usta criticized CHP Deputy Speaker Tekin Bingöl and the CHP group that requested the roll call.
Asking, "Where were the 275 AK Party and 46 MHP deputies?" former AKP member Şamil Tayyar addressed Usta, saying, "This was not right, Madam Chair. We must first prick ourselves with the needle before we prick the opposition. It is a shame for the efforts of our President and Devlet Bey."
Following the adjournment of the session, AKP Deputy Group Chair Leyla Şahin Usta made a statement on her social media account, blaming the opposition for requesting the roll call and criticizing CHP Deputy Speaker Tekin Bingöl. Usta posted, "Despite our objections, the CHP Deputy Speaker adjourned the session... While the Assembly could have opened in its usual routine and there were enough deputies present for the law to pass, CHP Deputy Speaker Tekin Bingöl requested a roll call. Then, although the CHP Deputy Group Chair and CHP deputies were present in the General Assembly, they caused the Assembly to adjourn by 'NOT PARTICIPATING IN THE ROLL CALL.' Let our nation see this hypocrisy. Tens of thousands of our families are being victimized because of this attitude of yours. Shame on you."
"Where were the 275 AK Party and 46 MHP deputies?"
Former AKP deputy Şamil Tayyar made a statement on his social media account, noting, "Our Deputy Group Chair Leyla Şahin Usta blamed the opposition for requesting a roll call and not attending the session: 'When the matter at hand is the right of the nation, the expectations of mothers, and the hope of families; they sacrificed this process, which could not tolerate even a single day's delay, to political calculations.'" Tayyar added, "If this law was of such vital importance, where were the 275 AK Party and 46 MHP deputies?"
"This was not right, Madam Chair..."
Stating that the quorum would have been reached if AKP deputies had attended, Şamil Tayyar said, "If the members of the ruling party had attended the session, the opposition's roll call maneuver would have been rendered void. The duty to make the Assembly work belongs primarily to the members of the ruling party. You cannot have ruling party deputies fail to come to the Assembly and then get angry at the opposition for requesting a roll call. This was not right, Madam Chair. We must first prick ourselves with the needle, then the opposition. It is a shame for the efforts of our President and Devlet Bey."
