Şamil Tayyar slams economic management's inflation excuses: 'It's getting old'

While the practice of citing frost in winter and drought in summer as reasons for high inflation has been consistently criticized, particularly by the opposition, a new critique has emerged from within the AKP camp.

Stating that Treasury and Finance Minister Şimşek has been in his ministerial seat for a long time, Şamil Tayyar noted that the excuses provided are also bothering him.

In his social media statement, Şamil Tayyar used the following expressions:

"It did not receive enough attention amidst the heat of political debates and the duel in parliament.

The inflation rate, which was targeted at an average of 16 percent by the end of 2026, has been revised and raised to a range of 15-21 percent.

The deviation in inflation targets, which have been revised every February for the last 3 years, is thought-provoking.

It is very strange that the economic management, which explains the rise in inflation with a different justification every year, is this time making references to gold under the mattress and the month of Ramadan.

In this country, the blessed month of Ramadan is experienced every year, and it will be observed forever, God willing.

The society's gold savings are also a well-known practice that has persisted for years.

It is a predictable situation, not an extraordinary one like an earthquake or frost/drought.

We are in the third year of the current economic management.

I think we have left the phase of producing excuses behind.

From this point on, every excuse is getting old."
