Şanlıurfa Governor's Office statement on school attack: 1 detained, 4 suspended
The Şanlıurfa Governor's Office announced that following the school attack in the Siverek district, 2 District Police Department officials and 2 District National Education Directorate officials have been suspended, and 1 person has been detained in connection with the incident.
In a statement issued by the Governor's Office, it was stated that the investigation is ongoing following the armed attack carried out by Ö.K., who was identified as a former student of the Ahmet Koyuncu Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School.
The statement emphasized that the incident is being investigated from multiple angles and noted that 1 person has been detained in connection with the event.
Furthermore, the statement indicated that 4 public officials have been suspended following the incident, and the following was recorded:
As a result of the armed attack carried out on Tuesday, 14.04.2026, around 09:30, at the Ahmet Koyuncu Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in our Siverek district by Ö.K., who was identified as a former student of the school, 7 of our 16 injured citizens have completed their treatment and have been discharged. The treatment of our 9 injured, 3 of whom are in critical condition, continues in hospitals located in Şanlıurfa.
Within the scope of the judicial investigation initiated by our Siverek Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to clarify the incident, 1 suspect has been apprehended and detained. The judicial investigation is being conducted comprehensively and from multiple angles.
In order to investigate the incident from an administrative perspective, upon the request of our Governor's Office, inspectors have been assigned by the Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Interior (General Directorate of Security).
Additionally, to ensure the investigation stages are conducted properly, 2 District Police Department officials and 2 District National Education Directorate officials have been suspended from their duties. The investigation processes are being closely monitored by our Ministries and our Governor's Office.
Education and training at the Ahmet Koyuncu Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School have been suspended for 4 days starting from 14.04.2026.
The health status of our injured citizens affected by this heinous attack, which has deeply saddened our country, is being closely monitored. We wish for a speedy recovery from God for all our injured and extend our best wishes to all our citizens affected by the incident, especially our education community."
