Saraçhane case: Flash decision regarding 49 youths
The judicial process regarding the Saraçhane protests, which began following the cancellation of İmamoğlu's diploma, continues. Today, the first hearing of the case involving 49 detained individuals was held. The trial of the 49 youths has been postponed to October 24.
Following the cancellation of Ekrem İmamoğlu's university diploma, protests began in Saraçhane Square and its surroundings the next day, accompanied by the detention of numerous municipal officials. While over a thousand people were detained during the demonstrations, which were attended by large groups consisting mostly of youths, 278 people were arrested.
While over 200 of the arrested individuals were released following appeals, the third of the Saraçhane cases was heard today.
POSTPONED TO OCTOBER 24
The first hearing of the case, in which a total of 49 defendants—14 of whom are in custody—are being tried for their involvement in the Saraçhane protests, was held today at the Istanbul 70th Criminal Court of First Instance.
Due to the insufficiency of the courtroom, the hearing was moved to the 27th High Criminal Court Hall.
According to the decision rendered, the trial of the 49 youths has been postponed to October 24.
