Sarıgül waits in line with citizens this time
Criticizing the government's livestock policies, CHP MP Mustafa Sarıgül said, "Every new minister who comes along announces a roadmap. The minister leaves, and the road ends. Citizens continue to long for meat."
CHP Erzincan MP Mustafa Sarıgül joined the queue for affordable meat at the Meat and Milk Board (ESK). Meeting with people from Erzincan there, Sarıgül listened to the public's problems.
'WE SPENT 10 BILLION DOLLARS ON ANIMAL IMPORTS'
Those waiting in line told Sarıgül that they had been queuing since 05:00 for a kilo of meat. Stating, "Those who condemn my citizens, my dear people of Erzincan, to these queues for 1 kilo of ground meat, those responsible for these queues are the ones who have been governing the country for 22 years," Sarıgül said the following:
"The solution to this issue is economic nationalism. Economic nationalism means being in favor of production, not imports. It means supporting our own livestock farmers, not those in Brazil, Australia, or Uruguay. We have spent 10 billion dollars on animal imports in 10 years. If we had given this money to our own farmers, both the farmers would have earned money, and our people would not have been left longing for meat. The solution is not in France; the solution is in Erzincan."
'YOU CANNOT LOWER PRICES WITH IMPORTED MEAT'
Stating that imports are not the solution, Mustafa Sarıgül said, "If imports were the solution, meat prices would have fallen. It is not said in vain that 'a mill does not turn with carried water, and a meal does not boil with a borrowed pot.' Every new minister who comes along announces a roadmap. The minister leaves, and the road ends. Citizens continue to long for meat. There is no need for fancy words. Just listen to the words of my farmers. They say, 'There is no calf without a mother.' This means there must be incentives for livestock farming. They say, 'The meat issue cannot be solved until the fodder issue is solved.' In other words, you cannot lower prices with imported meat without lowering costs and increasing production," he said.
