Saturday Mothers gather at Galatasaray Square for the 1001st time: They called out to the State

The Saturday Mothers/People, who have been holding sit-in protests at Galatasaray Square since 1995 to ask about the fate of their relatives who were disappeared in custody and to demand the prosecution of the perpetrators, were at the square again this week.

In their 1001st-week statement, the relatives of the disappeared asked about the fate of Mustafa, Fahri, Ramazan, Ekrem, and Ali Bulut, who were disappeared in custody.

While the police barricades that were removed for last week's 1000th-week protest were put back in place on the same day, the Saturday Mothers/People held their protest today accompanied by police barricades once again.

ONLY 10 PEOPLE PERMITTED

Only 10 people, including Saturday Mothers and human rights defenders, were permitted to participate in the protest. The Saturday Mothers/People carried carnations and photographs of the disappeared during the protest, which was also supported by human rights defenders.

Maside Ocak, the sister of Hasan Ocak, who was disappeared in custody and read the statement for the 1001st week, recalled that Nora Morales de Cortiñas, one of the founding mothers of the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, had passed away, and stated, "We will not forget her."

'WHAT WOULD SHE DO IF HER CHILD WERE DESTROYED?'

Hanife Yıldız, the mother of Murat Yıldız, addressed AKP Group Deputy Chairperson Özlem Zengin as follows: "You granted permission for the 1000th week. It is very easy to make this decision and say these things from comfortable chairs in air-conditioned rooms. She is also a mother; I wonder how she would feel if her child were destroyed like this? What would she do?"

The Saturday Mothers are a community consisting of people who have been organizing sit-in protests at Galatasaray Square every Saturday since May 27, 1995, seeking their relatives who disappeared in custody and the perpetrators of their relatives who were victims of unsolved political murders.
