'Sazan sarmalı' operation in Diyarbakır and Istanbul! Fraud gang dismantled

A gang engaged in vehicle fraud using the "sazan sarmalı" (carp spiral) method has been dismantled in Diyarbakır and Istanbul. In the fraud operation where 20 suspects were arrested, assets worth 9 million 200 thousand TL belonging to 29 individuals were seized, while security camera footage captured one of the suspects converting the illicit proceeds into foreign currency.

'Sazan sarmalı' operation in Diyarbakır and Istanbul! Fraud gang dismantled

Teams from the Fraud Bureau of the Provincial Police Department's Public Security Branch determined that individuals who copied vehicle sale advertisements from websites to create fake listings would bring buyers and sellers together at a notary, then ensure the sale price was sent to their own accounts, defrauding citizens using the method known as 'sazan sarmalı'.

SPOTTED WHILE CONVERTING MONEY INTO FOREIGN CURRENCY

The fraud gang was dismantled in simultaneous operations carried out in Diyarbakır and Istanbul.

One of the suspects was identified through footage showing them converting money obtained from fraud into foreign currency; unlicensed pistols and phones were seized during searches. As a result of the investigation and examination of the 29 individuals' title deeds, insurance records, bank account activities, company assets, gambling income, land, air, and sea vehicles, and crypto assets; a total of 9 million 200 thousand TL in movable and immovable property, including 2 apartments, 1 workplace, 1 warehouse, and 2 vehicles, was seized.
