Sazlıdere Basin, which supplies water to Istanbul, is buried in concrete
Construction on the Kanal Istanbul project, which Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has opposed by stating, "It is unconstitutional, a crime is being committed," continues at full speed. Bridge piers and residential buildings are rising in Sazlıdere.
Work continues unabated along the Kanal Istanbul route, which Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu has harshly criticized, stating, "Concrete is replacing water; it is unconstitutional, you are committing a crime!" While residential construction around the Sazlıdere Dam has reached the 6th floor, it has been reported that the piers of the bridge on the highway being built by Rönesans Holding have reached 110 meters.
The decisions regarding the declaration of a reserve area and the 1/100,000 scale environmental plan change for the Kanal Istanbul project were found to be unlawful and canceled by the Istanbul 5th Administrative Court. However, despite all legal obstacles, construction activities in the region continue.
DEMOLITION NOTICE FROM İSKİ
A demolition notice was sent by İSKİ to the residential construction being carried out by TOKİ in the Sazlıdere Dam basin on the grounds that it does not comply with the Water Basin Protection Regulation. İmamoğlu had previously described the project as a "betrayal" and warned that it would destroy water resources.
CONTINUES DESPITE İBB WARNINGS
The fact that construction continues without slowing down, despite all the warnings of İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and court decisions, has been interpreted as "stubbornness against the people of Istanbul." It is emphasized that the project threatens Istanbul's water resources, will lead to ecological destruction, and is unconstitutional.
