Allegations regarding violence, disciplinary penalties, and family life involving two department heads appointed by decree at the Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) have been brought to the Turkish Grand National Assembly; CHP MP Ahmet Vehbi Bakırlıoğlu has asked whether an investigation has been launched into the matter.
Certain high-level appointments made at the Presidency of Religious Affairs have brought discussions regarding internal institutional practices to the fore. Allegations raised against two department heads appointed by decree have been brought to the Turkish Grand National Assembly.
CHP'S BAKIRLIOĞLU SUBMITS PARLIAMENTARY QUESTION
CHP Manisa MP Ahmet Vehbi Bakırlıoğlu submitted a written parliamentary question requesting an investigation into the allegations concerning the individuals in question. Bakırlıoğlu posed questions regarding whether these individuals are still in office, whether any administrative action has been taken against them, and whether an investigation has been initiated.
ALLEGATIONS OF VIOLENCE AND AFFAIRS
According to a report by Sözcü, various issues regarding the family life of one of the department heads, identified as M., have come to light. It is alleged that M. ended his first marriage, and during his second marriage, a restraining order was issued against him due to violence while he was in the process of divorce. Reports have also surfaced in the public domain regarding the same individual having an affair with another woman and establishing commercial ties with religious officials.
Regarding the other department head, E., it was stated that an investigation was launched following a complaint by his legally wedded wife. According to the allegations, a woman who came to his home to care for his child became pregnant, a child was born from this union, and a religious marriage (nikah) was performed between the parties. It was reported that E. was issued a "reprimand" penalty at the end of this process.
Information was shared that despite the allegations against both individuals falling under categories that require severe sanctions according to Diyanet regulations, they continue to remain in their positions.
