Scandalous remarks from union president defending abusive mufti: 'You are barking and attacking'

District Mufti İshak Yıldırım, who taught religious classes at an Imam Hatip secondary school in Eskişehir, was detained on charges of abusing a 12-year-old female student and was later released under judicial control.

While the decision sparked outrage on social media, an arrest warrant was issued for Yıldırım upon the objection of the Eskişehir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

Re-detained, İshak Yıldırım was arrested and sent to prison at the courthouse where he was referred after his procedures.

Following the arrest of İshak Yıldırım for child abuse, Mil-Diyanet Sen Chairman Celaleddin Gül made a scandalous statement. The statement, which claimed, "Another one of our muftis has become a victim of 6284," included the following remarks:

"WE STAND WITH HIM"

"Every year, dozens of our religious officials and muftis fall victim to the slander law numbered 6284. In particular, dozens of our religious officials and muftis who teach religious classes in schools have suffered serious grievances due to the slanders leveled against them.

Some individuals and organizations that do not want our religious officials and muftis to teach classes in secondary schools and high schools have caused them to be arrested by setting traps and making lies and slanders against our teachers.

Circles that want to discredit the Diyanet, our religious officials, and our muftis in the eyes of our noble nation are achieving these goals with Law No. 6284, known among the public as the slander law.

As Mil-Diyanet Sen, we stand behind our district mufti who has been subjected to slander. We are following the incident. The Diyanet, our religious officials, and our muftis are not left without support."

"YOU ARE BARKING AND ATTACKING"

Union President Gül made another post following his controversial statement. Gül said, "I examined hundreds of profiles that wrote comments on this post: The vast majority are LGBT advocates. These pathetic creatures, who cannot say a single word to the real child abusers—the LGBT individuals who lead little children at the forefront of semi-nude LGBT marches and kiss little children on the lips while walking—and those who support them, are hurling unspeakable insults at the Diyanet and religious figures. Get out of here! You are not sincere. When the subject is the Diyanet, you bark and attack like a pack of dogs. You have another agenda. If you are looking for an abuser, look at your own neighborhood first."
