Scrap dealer who set neighborhood on fire while burning scrap arrested
One of the two scrap dealers who caused a fire that led to significant property damage in the Manavgat district of Antalya has been arrested.
The perpetrators of the fire that started in a scrubland area in Kızılağaç Neighborhood in Antalya's Manavgat district on Friday, spread rapidly due to strong winds, threatened residential areas, and caused damage to warehouses, pantries, chicken coops, barns, and some houses, were caught shortly after the incident by the Manavgat District Gendarmerie Command Central Gendarmerie Station and JASAT teams.
THEY FLED AFTER FAILING TO EXTINGUISH IT
It was learned that the foreign nationals, one of whom is a 16-year-old child pushed into crime, stated in their testimonies to the gendarmerie that they had no intention of starting a fire, that the fire spread to the wooded area due to a sudden strong wind while they were burning a sofa to extract the iron, and that they fled the scene when they could not extinguish it. Acting on photographs taken by a citizen who noticed the situation before the fire, the gendarmerie caught the suspects in a short time.
1 PERSON ARRESTED
After their procedures at the gendarmerie, the individuals appeared before the duty prosecutor at the Manavgat Courthouse and were referred to court with a request for arrest for 'causing a forest fire in violation of the duty of care and attention' under Article 110/3 of the Forestry Law No. 6831. Of the 2 suspects, Zekeriya Eşsammad was arrested and sent to Ilıca Prison. The 16-year-old M.A. was released under judicial control.
