Sea water has receded in the İskenderun and Arsuz districts of Hatay. A statement regarding the concerning sight came from Prof. Dr. Abdulla Sakallı, Head of the Industrial Engineering Department at the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences of İskenderun Technical University (İSTE).

Prof. Dr. Abdulla Sakallı, Head of the Industrial Engineering Department at the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences of İskenderun Technical University (İSTE), stated that there is no extraordinary situation regarding the sea water recession in the two districts.
Stating that there is a recession of approximately 2-2.5 meters, Sakallı said, "The recession currently being experienced is quite normal. It is a recession caused by sea bottom currents, wind, and tidal events. There is no situation to be worried about regarding this matter."
Sakallı stated that the activity is caused by climatic reasons and used the following expressions:
"This could be one of the effects of climate change. Because the water surface temperature has shown a serious increase here in recent periods. We have been working on this since 2017. We have been observing this place with satellite data since 2017. Depending on this activity, there may be a recession. The sea bottom current system may be changing right now. This needs to be monitored as well. There is no situation that will have a negative impact at a disaster level."
