Search continues for person who went missing after car plunged off cliffs into sea in Antalya

Fire department, Provincial Disaster and Emergency Management (AFAD), medical, police, and Coast Guard diving teams, who were dispatched to the region following reports that a car had plunged into the sea with its driver from a height of approximately 35 meters from the cliffs on Eski Lara Street in the Şirinyalı neighborhood last night, are continuing search and rescue operations.

Antalya Police Chief İlker Arslan and Coast Guard Antalya Group Commander Tolga Coşkun arrived at the scene to receive information about the operations.

Arslan told reporters that there were adverse weather conditions in Antalya due to an "Orange" code alert.

Stating that severe weather conditions negatively affected the operations, Arslan said, "Therefore, during the teams' intervention in the darkness of the evening, only the license plate and parts such as the bumper belonging to the vehicle could be reached. Due to the waves and low underwater visibility, the searches were still continued in a controlled manner. With the daylight today, we have further increased the search and rescue efforts. We intend to conclude this incident during the day."

Arslan stated that low visibility in the sea made their work difficult, adding, "There is 1 person in the vehicle, and we are currently working with all our technical elements in a total of 6 teams."
