Seçil Erzan's lawyer tells 12punto: 'Same ward, different room'

The fraud case involving former Denizbank branch manager Seçil Erzan, who is accused of collecting money from many people in the sports and business worlds under the name of the 'Fatih Terim Fund' with the promise of high returns, continues to remain on the agenda.

Most recently, it was alleged that Seçil Erzan had a fight with social media phenomenon Bahar Candan, who is imprisoned on charges of 'money laundering' and 'membership in a criminal organization,' and that her ward had been changed.

Seçil Erzan’s lawyer, Nazlı Karaaslan, spoke to 12punto regarding the issue.

"SEÇİL ERZAN IS STILL IN THE SAME WARD"

Stating that Seçil Erzan's ward has not changed, Karaaslan said, “She is still in the same ward. However, those are already high-security wards. Cell-type. They can stay as 2 people. There is also a setup where 3 people can stay. She wanted to stay alone. Because her wardmate watches too much television. Ms. Seçil does not like watching much television.”

Emphasizing that Erzan feels demoralized when she sees news about herself on tabloid programs, Karaaslan said, "For that reason, she wanted to move to a quieter place where she could work on her own notes and stay alone.”

"SHE DID NOT FIGHT WITH BAHAR CANDAN"

Responding to the allegations that Erzan fought with Bahar Candan in prison, Karaaslan stated, “No, no. There is no such thing at all. There is no situation of a fight, but as I said, Ms. Bahar wants to watch a lot of television. Seçil does not want to watch it. One goes to bed late, one gets up early, and so on; naturally, the rooms are tiny. The prison was available, her request was evaluated. They found it appropriate and it was changed. The ward is the same, but her room has changed.”

"FOR NOW, SHE IS ALONE"

Stating that Erzan is currently staying alone in her new room, Karaaslan said, “She is alone for now, but of course, the wards there are suitable for two or three people to stay. If someone comes tomorrow or the next day, they might put them with her, but for now, she is alone.”

"SHE DOES NOT WANT A TELEVISION, SHE WASN'T WATCHING IT ANYWAY"

News reports emerged claiming that Seçil Erzan did not want a refrigerator or a television in her new room.

Karaaslan said the following regarding the matter:

“She doesn't want a television; she wasn't watching it anyway. A refrigerator is also not provided. You have to buy it. She is not the type who eats a lot either. She has nothing to put in a fridge. Since she doesn't have much of an appetite. The rooms are also small. She hasn't seen a need for it for now, but if she wants, we can already buy it from the canteen. We will buy a fridge for Ms. Seçil.”

WHAT IS SEÇİL ERZAN DOING IN PRISON?

Karaaslan summarized what Seçil Erzan is doing in prison with these words:

“She has gotten used to prison. The things that can be done in prison are already clear. She has her notes, she has her documents. She is working on the case. She has books she is reading. She is trying to pass the time that way. I mean, what else can she do anyway?”
