Municipal Officer Hüseyin Eligül, Who Gave $500,000 to Seçil Erzan: 'I Wouldn't Trade the World for a Single Tear of Yours'

New details are emerging every day in the fraud case where former Denizbank branch manager Seçil Erzan collected money from many people in the worlds of sports and business under the name of the 'Fatih Terim Fund' with promises of high returns.

A total of 181,538 WhatsApp messages were recovered from the mobile phone that Seçil Erzan broke before being taken into custody and which was later repaired.

MUNICIPAL OFFICER HAD GIVEN $500,000

The 1,947 messages exchanged with Seçil Erzan, whom municipal officer Hüseyin Eligül—one of the defendants in the case that has gripped Turkey—described by saying, “I have known her for 30 years, I gave her nearly 500,000 dollars,” have been entered into the case file. 

According to the report by Ayşegül Usta from Hürriyet, Eligül sent messages to Erzan to inform her whenever those who invested money in the fund called him repeatedly to demand their money back. He sent the most messages regarding a person he referred to as “Uncle İsmet.”

 In a message he sent to Seçil Erzan on December 9, 2022, he wrote, “My daughter, are you available? This Uncle İsmet is giving me a headache.” Erzan replied, “Next Friday, his business is okay.” On December 19, 2022, Eligül wrote to Erzan, “My daughter, don't forget Uncle İsmet, I beg you,” and on December 20, 2022, he said, “My dear, I don't know if you are available. Uncle İsmet is a problem. He says, ‘You said 45 days, it's been 3 months, what about my business?’”

When Eligül wrote on December 27, 2022, “My daughter, is Uncle İsmet's business done? He is calling, I didn't answer,” Seçil Erzan complained, “No, brother. Do you think I'm not giving it because I have it? I put my life at risk. If you only knew the people I have to deal with. I am trying to pull things together. I have lost my mind, don't you see? I put the house in Semilyon (in Çorlu) up for sale yesterday.” Eligül replied, “It's okay, my daughter. I'll sell mine too, if that's the case. We got into this together, we will get out of it together. Wherever you go, I go. There is no problem with that. I wouldn't trade the world for a single tear of yours.”

On January 16, 2023, Hüseyin Eligül wrote to Erzan, “Musa brother called, I came to see him.” Erzan asked, “What did he hear?” Eligül replied, “My daughter, he was in a setting. Some people were talking about our business. They were talking about Fatih coach, calling him ‘our brother in Florya’ and such. They were saying, ‘He is investing our money, it earns well every month.’ They say, ‘Why have we been waiting for 1.5 years?’ They say, ‘This won't do, let's talk.’ He came to help us, he said he pushed all the conditions for this return.” Upon Erzan saying, “Brother, Candaş is with me, I am very panicked, my hands and feet are shaking. I cannot call,” Eligül wrote, “It's okay, don't upset yourself. Musa said, ‘Don't let her worry.’”
