Second hearing in the Kartalkaya tragedy case: 32 defendants on trial, 19 in custody
The second hearing of the trial regarding the Grand Kartal Hotel fire in Bolu's Kartalkaya Ski Resort, which occurred on January 21 and resulted in 78 deaths and 133 injuries, has begun with 32 defendants, 19 of whom are in custody.
The first hearing of the fire tragedy at the Grand Kartal Hotel in Kartalkaya, which claimed 78 lives and left 133 people injured, began on July 7 at the Bolu Social Sciences High School Sports Hall. During the hearings, which lasted 10 days, the defense statements of the defendants and the testimonies of the victims were heard.
In an interim decision announced on July 17, the court ordered the arrest of firefighter İrfan Acar, who was previously under house arrest, and the release of one of the detained defendants, assistant cook Faysal Yaver, under judicial control. Additionally, house arrest was imposed for a period of 4 months on defendants İbrahim Polat, İsmail Karagöz, Yiğithan Burak Çetin, and Ali Ağaoğlu, who were being tried without arrest.
Meanwhile, in the case regarding the fire tragedy, the public prosecutor submitted their opinion on the merits to the court. The opinion requested that 7 defendants, including hotel managers and municipal officials, be punished for the crimes of 'homicide with probable intent' against 78 people and 'causing injury with probable intent' against numerous individuals.
