Secularism Assembly: 'We know the real perpetrators of the Sivas Massacre!'
In a statement, the Secularism Assembly said, "The fuse of counter-revolution lit against the Secular Republic in Sivas in the 1990s stands today as a bomb ready to explode over our country at any moment."
The Secularism Assembly, in a statement issued following the release of Sivas Massacre defendants who had been sentenced to life imprisonment, stated: "As in many similar political murder and massacre cases, the main Sivas Massacre case, which was opened as a case of 'Intentional (ordinary) homicide' against a few hitmen, as well as other cases opened later, protected the perpetrators through classic methods of (non)adjudication. While the hearings were dragged out for years by beating around the bush, the discussions on 'crimes against humanity' that entered our legislation in 2005 further covered up the Gladio and the sharia-based uprising against the constitutional order."
The statement, which noted that "the fuse of counter-revolution lit against the Secular Republic in Sivas in the 1990s stands today as a bomb ready to explode over our country at any moment," emphasized: "We call on all citizens to meet at the position of secularism and to strengthen the struggle for secularism in order to hold the real perpetrators of this imperialist project accountable before the law."
