Seismologist Naci Görür: Misinformation about the Istanbul earthquake has been pumped to the public

Following the 6.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Balıkesir, earthquake experts continue to provide assessments and warnings during live broadcasts.

Prof. Dr. Naci Görür also evaluated the Balıkesir earthquake during a program he attended and made striking statements regarding the expected Istanbul earthquake.

Naci Görür criticized the discourse that emerged regarding the Istanbul earthquake following the 6.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Sındırgı, Balıkesir.

Görür stated that after the earthquake, Istanbul has become more dangerous and the probability of an earthquake greater than magnitude 7 has increased.

Görür's words are as follows:

"My personal and scientific opinion is this; Istanbul has become more dangerous. 

Considering that only a small portion of the western end of the Kumburgaz fault ruptured in the recent 6.2 magnitude earthquake in Istanbul, that a large portion remains unruptured, and taking into account the Adalar fault that normally enters the gulf, the public has been fed misinformation about the earthquake.

The words 'the earthquake threat in Istanbul is over' misled the public. 

I do not think there has been a lull (a loss of former strength or speed), therefore Istanbul has become more dangerous. It is certain that an earthquake above 7 will occur with the rupture of these faults"
