Selma Ateş rebels to 12punto: 'While children who steal bread get prison sentences, they want to close this file'

In the trial where 12 detained defendants are being tried for the murder of Sinan Ateş, the prosecution will announce its final opinion tomorrow.

The trial regarding the murder of former Ülkü Ocakları President Sinan Ateş began on July 1. In the case, 10 of the 22 detained defendants were released under judicial control.

Before the hearing to be held tomorrow, Sinan Ateş's sister Selma Ateş and the Ateş family's lawyer Şeyda Şahin evaluated the trial process for 12punto.

'IF JUSTICE IS NOT SERVED, OUR FIGHT WILL JUST BE BEGINNING'

Stating that there is an attempt to close the file, Selma Ateş continued her words as follows:

“It is a sad thing that while children who steal bread in this country receive 7-year sentences, those involved in this murder are being hastily released and there is an attempt to close the file. Our only wish is justice. If justice does not come out of this, our fight will just be beginning. We all know that Sinan will not come back. Our effort is so that other Sinan Ateşes are not murdered. If the criminals in the Sinan Ateş case do not serve their sentences, then we will begin to think that there is a problem in the Turkish state's judicial system. We do not want to seek justice on television or in the streets. If Turkey is a state of law, we want to see this law in action.”

'THIS FILE HAS REMAINED INCOMPLETE'

Ateş family lawyer Şeyda Şahin stated that there are 17 people whose files have been separated and that there is an attempt to announce the final opinion early, continuing her words as follows:

“In my opinion, the presiding judge will not give us the right to speak. There were requests from Apple. They were submitted for approval today. A final opinion cannot be given with missing documents. Since the other file is confidential, we cannot access the information within it. We will demand that the confidentiality of the separated file be lifted and that this file be awaited. What should happen tomorrow is the postponement of the final opinion. Because the information has not arrived yet. The data on the phones of Mustafa Ensar Aykal and Serdar Öktem has not emerged, and because the file containing 17 people is confidential, this file has remained incomplete. This is an attempt to protect the 17 people in the other file. However, the presiding judge wants the file to leave his court and go to the appellate court.”
