Şener Üşümezsoy clarifies reports that 'the Adalar fault is under stress': The actual active fault
Prof. Dr. Şener Üşümezsoy stated that media reports titled "The Adalar fault is under stress" do not reflect the facts, reminding that this is a dead fault.
Some reports circulating on social media claimed that earthquake expert Prof. Dr. Şener Üşümezsoy had given a statement suggesting that stress is accumulating on the Adalar fault in the Marmara region.
Following the reports becoming a topic of discussion, a statement regarding the 'alleged remarks' came from Prof. Dr. Üşümezsoy.
Making a statement on his social media account, Üşümezsoy said, "The Adalar fault has not been active for 10 million years; it has been a dead fault for at least 5 million years. I have no connection to the reports appearing on the internet, and I have made no such statement."

Finally, recalling the 6.1 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Silivri, Üşümezsoy used the following expressions:
"After the 1999 earthquake, everyone said, 'The fault will pass through the Adalar and break.' But over time, it emerged that the Adalar fault is not the fault it was thought to be. The actual active fault in the Marmara is the South Marmara fault line, which passes off the coast of Yalova."
