Sentence handed down to defendant who killed musician Cihan Aymaz for not playing requested song
The individual who stabbed and killed musician Cihan Aymaz in Kadıköy for not playing a requested song has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
On May 2, 2023, in Kadıköy, Mehmet Caymaz approached Cihan Aymaz (30) and requested a folk song. When Aymaz refused, an argument broke out between the two. Mehmet Caymaz (33) then stabbed Cihan Aymaz in the chest with a knife he was carrying, killing him.
The trial of the detained defendant, Mehmet Caymaz, continued. The hearing held at the Anadolu 22nd High Criminal Court was attended by the detained defendant Mehmet Caymaz, the complainants, and the lawyers for both parties. In his final statement, defendant Mehmet Caymaz said he was remorseful.
The lawyer for the complainants stated that there have been other musician murders in the past and requested that the defendant be given the harshest possible sentence to ensure such murders do not happen again.
The court panel sentenced the defendant, Mehmet Caymaz, to life imprisonment for the crime of "intentional killing" and did not apply any reduction to the sentence.
