Sentence requested for father who kicked his daughter down the stairs: His defense is shocking

The investigation into the suspect father, Turgay T., who allegedly kicked his 3-year-old daughter M.T. with his foot on the stairs in front of their apartment building on June 3, 2025, in Eyüpsultan, causing her to fall down the stairs and require hospitalization, has been completed. In the indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 3-year-old M.T. is listed as the 'victim', mother Aycan T. as the 'complainant', and father Turgay T. as the 'suspect'.

REPORTS FILED REGARDING THE SAME INCIDENT

The indictment states that two weeks after the incident, on June 18, a report was filed against the suspect Turgay T. alleging that he had committed violence against his daughter M.T., kicked her, and caused her to tumble down the stairs, and that this was visible in security camera footage; consequently, investigative proceedings were initiated. The indictment notes that reports regarding the same incident were also received from citizens via the ALO 183 hotline, CİMER, and social media accounts.

ASSESSED AS HAVING A PROPENSITY FOR CRIME

The indictment, which states that the victim M.T. was not questioned due to her age, notes that suspect Turgay T. has a criminal record for multiple offenses, leading to the assessment that he has a propensity for committing crimes. It was also noted that because the report was filed some time after the incident, no signs of physical assault or injury were found on the victim's body.

SHOCKING DEFENSE: "MY INTENTION WAS TO PROTECT THE CHILD"

The indictment also includes the statement of suspect Turgay T., who claimed that on the day of the incident, he arrived in front of the elevator with his mother and daughter, that his daughter began pressing the apartment buzzers, that he warned her not to do so, that he was afraid because the apartment buzzers were under renovation with wires exposed and taped, that he moved her away from the wires, and that when his daughter went back to the wires, he warned her and tried to move her away with his foot, at which point she fell down a few steps; he claimed he did not assault his daughter, that he is remorseful, and that his intention was to protect his child. The indictment states that mother Aycan T. provided similar statements to the suspect, but upon personal review of the camera footage showing the moment of the incident, it was assessed that the suspect's defense was an attempt to evade criminal liability, and that Turgay T. had indeed kicked his 3-year-old daughter with his foot, causing her to fall down the stairs and sustain injuries.

PRISON DEMAND

The prepared indictment requests that suspect Turgay T. be sentenced to between 1 year and 1 month and 2 years and 3 months in prison for the crime of 'simple injury against a descendant who is unable to defend themselves physically or mentally'. The suspect's trial will begin in the coming days at the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance.
