In the indictment prepared against the suspect Yunus Emre Geçti, who shot and killed police officer Şeyda Yılmaz in Ümraniye, Istanbul, it was requested that he be sentenced to an aggravated life sentence and up to 50 years, 10 months, and 15 days in prison for a total of 5 separate crimes.

On September 23, 2024, in Ümraniye, police officer Şeyda Yılmaz (27) lost her life during a scuffle that broke out while attempting to apprehend the suspect Yunus Emre Geçti (19), who had a criminal record of 26 offenses. Geçti was arrested and sent to prison for the crime of "intentional killing of a public official due to their duty." The investigation conducted by the Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the incident has been completed.

In the prepared indictment, an aggravated life sentence was requested for Yunus Emre Geçti for the killing of police officer Şeyda Yılmaz on the grounds of "intentional killing of a woman, due to the public duty performed by the person, in order to conceal a crime, eliminate evidence, or facilitate its commission, or to avoid being caught."

PRISON REQUESTED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER OF HIS MOTHER

The indictment noted that the severe wounding of police officer Kürşat Hakkı Sarıtepe constituted attempted murder, and requested up to 20 years in prison for the crime of "attempted intentional killing due to the public duty performed by the person, in order to conceal a crime, eliminate evidence, or facilitate its commission, or to avoid being caught," and also requested up to 20 years in prison for the crime of "attempted intentional killing of an ascendant" regarding his mother, Pınar Geçti.

AGGRAVATED LIFE SENTENCE REQUESTED FOR 5 SEPARATE CRIMES

The indictment recorded that Yunus Emre Geçti resisted the 2 police officers at the scene, and requested 7 years, 10 months, and 15 days in prison for the crime of "resisting to prevent the performance of duty in a chain manner" and up to 3 years in prison for the crime of "opposition to the Law on Firearms and Knives and Other Instruments." In total, an aggravated life sentence and up to 50 years, 10 months, and 15 days in prison were requested for Yunus Emre Geçti for 5 separate crimes.

REQUEST FOR NO SENTENCE REDUCTION

The indictment requested that no reduction be applied to Yunus Emre Geçti's sentence due to his past, social relationships, and the nature and character of the crime. The prepared indictment was sent to the Istanbul Anatolian 26th High Criminal Court. If the court accepts the indictment, the trial of the suspect Geçti will begin in the coming days.
