Sentences sought for mayors in Aziz İhsan Aktaş indictment revealed: 7 Mayors
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has prepared the indictment in the "Aziz İhsan Aktaş Criminal Organization" investigation. The indictment seeks varying prison sentences for seven mayors.
The 578-page indictment, prepared by the Organized Crimes Bureau of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, lists 19 individuals as victims.
Among the 200 suspects, 40 of whom are in custody, are Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat, Adana Metropolitan Mayor Zeydan Karalar, Adıyaman Mayor Abdurrahman Tutdere, Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, Avcılar Mayor Utku Caner Çaykara, Ceyhan Mayor Kadir Aydar, and Seyhan Mayor Oya Tekin.
The prosecution has requested the seizure of assets Aktaş obtained through criminal activity. It has requested a prison sentence for Aktaş ranging from 270 to 704 years.
The indictment seeks up to 415 years in prison for Akpolat; while varying prison terms are sought for Zeydan Karalar, Abdurrahman Tutdere, Ahmet Özer, Utku Caner Çaykara, Ceyhan Mayor Kadir Aydar, and Seyhan Mayor Oya Tekin.
SENTENCES SOUGHT FOR THE SEVEN MAYORS
Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat is charged with "membership in a criminal organization," "rigging 26 separate tenders," "forgery of official and private documents," "fraud," "bribery," and "money laundering and illicit acquisition of assets."
A total prison sentence ranging from 159 to 415 years has been requested for Akpolat. The prosecution has also requested the seizure of assets Akpolat "obtained through criminal activity."
For Avcılar Mayor Utku Caner Çaykara, a prison sentence of 6 to 18 years has been requested for the crimes of "rigging a tender" and "bribery."
For Seyhan Mayor Oya Tekin, Ceyhan Mayor Kadir Aydar, Adana Mayor Zeydan Karalar, and Adıyaman Mayor Abdurrahman Tutdere, prison sentences of 4 to 12 years each have been requested for the crime of "bribery."
For Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, a prison sentence of 3 to 9 years has been requested for the crimes of "rigging a tender" and "forgery of private documents."
BAHÇETEPE'S FILE SEPARATED
The file of Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor Hakan Bahçetepe has been separated from the indictment. The investigation into Bahçetepe is being conducted separately.
