Serhan Asker, Seda Selek, and Barış Pehlivan, who were detained for broadcasting an interview with an expert witness whose name was revealed by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, have been referred to the courthouse.
Halk TV Managing Editor Serhan Asker, journalist and author Barış Pehlivan, and Halk TV presenter Seda Selek have been referred to the courthouse as part of an investigation against them.
REFERRED TO THE COURTHOUSE FOLLOWING PROCEDURES
Barış Pehlivan and program host Seda Selek, who broadcast a recording of an interview with an expert witness—whose name was made public by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu—on a Halk TV program, were referred to the courthouse today after giving their statements at the police station.
In a press statement made in front of the courthouse, lawyer Hüseyin Ersöz stated the following:
"Before the detention process took place, we informed the prosecutor's office that we could make our clients available to provide statements. Unfortunately, these requests went unanswered. We learned that a detention order had been issued when the police went to Halk TV and carried out the detention process. The reason for the detention falls within the scope of journalistic activity. We will demand the release of our friends."
