Discussions continue regarding the death of 14-year-old Hafız Mahmud Işıldak, who lost his life after being electrocuted in a parking lot in Istanbul's Fatih district. Ahmet Mahmut Ünlü, known to the public as "Cübbeli Ahmet," made severe accusations against the İsmailağa community and one of the community's administrators, Seyfettin İnanç, in statements he made on social media and YouTube.
The incident occurred on October 14 in a parking lot near Çukurbostan Park in the Fatih district. It is alleged that Hafız Mahmud Işıldak, who was walking barefoot to keep his shoes from getting wet in the rainy weather, was electrocuted. Despite being rushed to the hospital, the child could not be saved.
In the video he released, Ünlü claimed that safety measures regarding the electrical installation in the parking lot had not been taken. Ünlü stated, "İsmailağa and Seyfettin İnanç had Hafız Mahmud Işıldak killed! They didn't install a 500-lira residual current device in the parking lot."
STATEMENT ON LICENSING FROM İSMAİLAĞA
Following the backlash, officials from the İsmailağa community also issued a statement. The statement indicated that the parking lot area in question had been allocated to the association by the Fatih Municipality since 2011 and that it possessed a business opening and operating license. It was argued that the area was taken over along with its infrastructure and installation, and that no intervention or work had been carried out on the installation since the handover.
Following the incident, findings from the Fatih Municipality's 2021 and 2023 Court of Accounts (Sayıştay) reports have also come back to the fore. The reports drew attention to assessments stating that a parking lot was being operated by an economic enterprise of an association in the park area in the Balat neighborhood, and that the regular accrual of ecrimisil (damages for unauthorized occupation) due to the occupation of public real estate was granting continuity to these occupations.
It was reported that the investigation launched by police and judicial authorities into the incident, as well as expert examinations, are ongoing.
