Sexual abuse under the guise of 'exorcism'
Kenan Kabakulak, who sexually abused children and women in Istanbul's Kağıthane district by exploiting their religious beliefs, had been a fugitive since receiving a 27-year prison sentence in 2014. Kabakulak was apprehended and taken into custody by police at a house where he was hiding in Şişli.
In the Kağıthane district, 72-year-old Kenan Kabakulak, who claimed to be 'distributing healing' under the guise of religious gatherings, exploited the religious sentiments of citizens.
Kabakulak claimed that he had returned to life as a previously lived religious scholar and that he could see jinn, which he described as creatures. Claiming to treat ailments allegedly caused by jinn, Kabakulak asserted that he had invented a 'bare-handed' striking technique.
17-year-old K.D., who attended Kabakulak's gatherings, was subjected to abuse by the religious charlatan. The individual locked the child in a room, stripped her, and abused her, saying, "I will remove the jinn from you," and then threatened her by saying, "Don't tell your family, or they will get sick."
HE ALSO ABUSED HER AUNT
It was learned that the abuse of the child continued for some time. After a while, Kabakulak also harassed the child's aunt using the same method.
Kabakulak was taken into custody following the complaints of the girl and her aunt. Kabakulak began to be tried for the crimes of child abuse and sexual assault.
The individual was tried 'without arrest' for these crimes in 2014. Kabakulak received a 27-year prison sentence. The higher court upheld Kabakulak's sentence.
After his sentence was upheld, Kabakulak, who began to be sought as a fugitive, was found by police teams.
It was learned that Kabakulak was hiding in a house in the Şişli district. Kabakulak was caught and taken into custody.
