Sexual assault under the pretext of a drug tip-off: Detained police officer to face judge

In Ankara, the trial of a police officer accused of sexually assaulting a woman after entering her home under the pretext of a "drug tip-off" will begin on April 22. The Left Feminist Movement, which has called for solidarity throughout the judicial process, issued a statement ahead of the hearing.

A 46-year-old woman, identified as A.A., who was reported to police for playing loud music in Ankara, was subjected to sexual assault by the officer who arrived at her home. According to the woman's statement, physical intervention and force were used during the assault.

An arrest warrant was issued for the perpetrator, police officer H.K., on charges of "violation of residential immunity in a qualified manner," "deprivation of liberty," and "simple sexual assault by abusing public office," on the grounds that there was "concrete evidence indicating the existence of strong suspicion that the alleged crime was committed."

The Left Feminist Movement issued a call for solidarity in a statement released before the first hearing.

"WE CALL FOR GROWING SOLIDARITY"

The statement included the following remarks:

"We call for growing solidarity at the first hearing of our sister who was detained by police officers who came to her door, whose home was entered unlawfully, and who was subjected to sexual assault."

The first hearing of the case will be held on April 22 at 14:00 at the Ankara 54th Criminal Court of First Instance.
