Sharp reaction from AKP's Şamil Tayyar to CBRT Deputy Governor Cevdet Akçay: 'You have already failed for two years, you have ruined the economy'
Former AKP deputy Şamil Tayyar has reacted sharply to the statement by CBRT Deputy Governor Cevdet Akçay, who said, "The election period does not concern me at all; if fiscal policy expands, I will tighten further."
Speaking at the Bizim Tepe History Talks event, jointly organized by the History Foundation and the Robert College Alumni Association, CBRT Deputy Governor Cevdet Akçay shared his views on the recent period of the Central Bank, which he described as a "restoration."
Reminding that inflation was at approximately 48 percent when he took office, Akçay stated that this rate has now fallen to 31 percent. However, emphasizing that this decline should not be considered in isolation, Akçay said, "If these steps had not been taken, inflation could have risen to the 150-200 percent band."
Stating that there is no direct link between monetary policy and election processes, Akçay drew attention to coordination with Treasury policies. In this context, he used the expressions, "The election period does not concern me at all; if fiscal policy expands, I (as monetary policy) will tighten further."
Former AKP deputy Şamil Tayyar reacted sharply to Akçay's statements. Tayyar expressed his criticism with the words, "How dare you challenge the political authority?"
In a post on his social media account, Tayyar used the following expressions:
''Because the infrastructure of the new government system was not well-designed, unfortunately, bureaucratic oligarchy has resurfaced and is experiencing its brightest period. The political institution, on the other hand, is crippled, and its influence on policies has been reduced to almost zero. Therefore, a bureaucrat can stand up and arrogantly, as if challenging the political authority, say, 'the election period does not concern me at all, if fiscal policy expands, I will tighten further.' One: You say 'I', who are you really? You have a governor, and your governor has a superior. Two: How dare you challenge the political authority? You have already failed for two years, you have ruined the economy, you could not prevent inflation, and on top of that, you keep blathering. Know your place, mind your own business. Do not try to dictate to politics.''
