She blamed the CHP leadership, said her mental health deteriorated, and resigned: 'It felt like irresponsibility to me'

Manavgat Deputy Mayor Gülsüm Özer, who was arrested during an operation targeting the Manavgat Municipality in Antalya and later released under judicial control, has announced her resignation from her positions as deputy mayor, CHP municipal council member, and party member.

Manavgat Deputy Mayor Gülsüm Özer announced the news of her resignation in a written statement. Expressing that she has experienced a difficult process since the day the investigation was conducted, Özer stated the following:

SHE TOUCHED UPON THE PROCESS, SAID 'MY MENTAL HEALTH DETERIORATED'

Due to the trauma I experienced during this process, my mental health has deteriorated. Because I believe I will not be able to be useful in the coming period, I am resigning from my municipal council membership and deputy mayor position.

At the same time, I am also resigning from my CHP membership. Because those who did not stand by me or support me during this difficult day, specifically the fact that the lawyer sent to me by the Provincial Presidency did not even know my name, felt like irresponsibility to me.

Despite it being nearly a week since I was released from prison, the fact that even the Provincial Chair has not called or checked on me is very thought-provoking as a CHP member who believed in its cause.

I am also a member of the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Council. What I want to say is not limited to these. Some members of parliament who came to visit me did not even know my name. The fact that everything is being done as if it were 'pretend' has saddened me greatly.

I hereby inform the entire public that I have chosen the path of resignation because all these reasons have deeply saddened me and because my mental health has deteriorated.

Özer had been detained and arrested on July 4 as part of an operation targeting the Manavgat Municipality for bribery, extortion, and embezzlement, and was released on August 7 under judicial control conditions.
