Condolence visits were paid to former Prime Minister Tansu Çiller following the passing of her husband, Özer Uçuran Çiller.

Visitors arrived at the family's home in Yeniköy starting from the morning hours to offer their condolences following the death of 86-year-old Özer Uçuran Çiller, who had been receiving dialysis treatment for some time and passed away due to a heart attack.

FUNERAL CEREMONY AT THE START OF THE WEEK

Tansu Çiller also saw off some of the visitors at the door.

Özer Uçuran Çiller's funeral will be laid to rest at the Kilyos Cemetery following the funeral prayer to be held at the Barbaros Hayrettin Pasha Mosque in Levent at noon on Monday, June 3.

WHO IS ÖZER UÇURAN ÇİLLER?

Özer Uçuran Çiller was born on September 21, 1937. He was an engineer and businessman. He was married to one of Turkey's former prime ministers, Tansu Çiller, and was a father of two. He took the surname "Çiller" after his marriage.

He was born as one of the two children of Ramiz Uçuran, the first and 30-year-serving headman (muhtar) of Caddebostan and a grocery store owner, and his wife İsmet Uçuran. After attending Saint Joseph French High School, he completed his engineering and master's degree studies at Robert College (Boğaziçi University).

He earned an MBA degree from Boston and Connecticut universities in the United States. He served as the Director of Economic Controls at the holding company Amatek Inc. until 1975.

Özer Çiller, who married Tansu Çiller in 1963, returned to Turkey after living in America for 8 years and served as CEO at Çukurova Holding under Mehmet Emin Karamehmet.

In 1981, he founded Marsan Marmara Holding together with his wife, Tansu Çiller. He also worked as a columnist for the newspapers Milliyet and Güneş.

Özer Uçuran Çiller passed away on June 1, 2024.
