She was on her way to give a statement: Woman who jumped from police vehicle dies after being hit by bus

A woman who jumped from a moving police vehicle in Ankara lost her life after being struck by a bus. It was learned that the woman was on her way to the Ankara Provincial Police Department with her children to give a statement regarding domestic violence.

The incident occurred on Bağdat Street in the Mehmet Akif Ersoy neighborhood of Ankara's Yenimahalle district.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

According to the information obtained, Güllü Alkan had filed a complaint with the Ankara Provincial Police Department due to domestic violence, accompanied by her children. Alkan was placed in a police vehicle to be taken to the police station to have her statement recorded. It is alleged that while the police vehicle was in motion, Alkan opened the rear door and threw herself onto the road. At that moment, a bus on line 297, which was following behind, struck Alkan. Alkan died tragically after being trapped under the bus.

CRYING OUT 'MOM'

Eyewitness Yaşar Tarakçı said, “She ended up under the bus. Her intestines and organs were completely exposed. Her mental state must have been unstable. Her daughter got out of a taxi and cried out 'Mom'. They cried a lot and were devastated; some people got off the bus.”

Another eyewitness, Salih Karaköse, stated, “A woman in a commercial taxi behind us was shouting 'Mom'. At that moment, the bus stopped, and we saw that she was by the rear wheel of the bus.”

Alkan's funeral was held in her hometown of Kurumcu village in Kızılcahamam. A statement from the Ankara Provincial Police Department announced that a judicial and administrative investigation into the matter has been initiated.
