Ship collision off the coast of Silivri: Who owns the Tuğberk İmamoğlu ship?

A search and rescue operation has been launched following the collision of two Turkish-flagged commercial ships off the coast of Silivri in the Sea of Marmara. The ALSU tanker, which was sailing from Kocaeli to Aliağa, and the dry cargo ship named Tuğberk İmamoğlu, which was traveling from İskenderun to Karadeniz Ereğli, collided in the early hours of September 2, approximately 18 miles south of Silivri.

Following the accident, contact could not be established with the Tuğberk İmamoğlu ship or its 10-person crew. According to statements from the Istanbul Governor's Office and the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs, sea and air assets have been dispatched to the region, and operations are being conducted by teams from the General Directorate of Coastal Safety and the Coast Guard Command.

EMERGENCY SIGNAL RECEIVED

The General Directorate of Maritime Affairs reported that an emergency signal was received from the EPIRB device belonging to the Tuğberk İmamoğlu by the COSPAS-SARSAT system at 03:26. The captain of the ALSU tanker informed the Vessel Traffic Services Center at 03:41 that they had collided with another ship at approximately 03:15.

It was stated that no visible damage was detected on the ALSU tanker during initial inspections. However, it is assessed that the Tuğberk İmamoğlu may have sunk, as it is not responding to calls and the crew cannot be reached by phone. According to the statements, the ship's life-saving equipment was found on the sea surface, but no personnel were found inside them.

OWNER AND TECHNICAL DETAILS OF THE SHIP

The shipowner of the Tuğberk İmamoğlu, with which contact was lost after the accident, is recorded as Zeybe Denizcilik ve Ticaret Limited Şirketi. According to the records of the İMEAK Chamber of Shipping, the Turkish-flagged dry cargo ship has a registration number of 2522, an IMO number of 9003548, and a call sign of TCA4304.

It is stated that the ship, registered in Istanbul, is listed in the Turkish International Ship Registry and has a carrying capacity of 3,970 DWT. Information was shared that the Tuğberk İmamoğlu, which has a gross tonnage of 2,606 and a net tonnage of 1,245, was built in Hamburg, Germany, in 1990.

The ship, which appears to be approximately 90 meters long in the records of the General Directorate of Coastal Safety, has a width of 12.8 meters according to the records of the İMEAK Chamber of Shipping. According to the statement by the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs, the ship was carrying 4,199 tons of rolled sheet metal at the time of the accident.

It was reported that 14 sea assets, one helicopter, and the ALSU tanker involved in the accident are participating in the search and rescue activities. It was noted that operations in the region are continuing in order to reach the crew.
