The General Directorate of Coastal Safety announced on its social media account that the 229-meter-long cargo ship named ALEXIS, which was en route from Ukraine to Egypt, had run aground off the Haydarpaşa Breakwater due to a mechanical failure.

The statement noted that the KURTARMA-6, KURTARMA-8, and KURTARMA-18 tugboats, as well as the KEGM-4 and KEGM-6 fast rescue boats and divers from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure's General Directorate of Coastal Safety, were dispatched to the scene to rescue the ship, and that vessel traffic in the strait had been temporarily suspended in both directions.
