Shocking claim in the case of Gabonese student Dina: Was she held in a basement?
Guy Serge Ibouanga, the father of Jeannah Danys Dinabongho Ibouanga, a Gabonese national found dead in Karabük, stated that his daughter was held in a basement, adding, "We know there are hair remains there."
The fourth hearing was held in the case regarding Jeannah Danys Dinabongho Ibouanga (17), a Gabonese university student whose body was found in the Filyos River in the Yeşilköy area of the Karabük-Yenice highway on March 26, 2023. While police teams took extensive security measures in front of and inside the courthouse, the hearing was attended by her father Guy Serge Ibouanga, her mother Jessica Santda Makemba Panga, lawyers, and Gabonese students.
Demanding justice for her daughter Dina, mother Jessica Santda Makemba Panga said, "What I want is for justice to be served. We are aware of the hair strands in the basement of the apartment building from which my daughter ran out. Losing Dina is very painful. We want all evidence regarding Dina to be investigated and for justice to be served."
Father Guy Serge Ibouanga stated that his daughter came to Turkey only to study, saying, "Dina was the only child God gave us. We can only come to collect the remains of our daughter who reached the age of 17. Our only wish is to reach the truth. Dina did nothing; she was innocent."
Ibouanga stated that there is evidence that Dina was held in the basement of the apartment building, adding, "We know there are hair remains there. Turkey is a great country; it is incomprehensible that this is not being investigated. Dina will not come back, but I want justice to be served."
Defendant Dursun A., who attended the hearing via the SEGBİS video conferencing system, repeated that he had not made contradictory statements in any of his testimonies, that he had picked up Dina in his vehicle to help her, and that he was innocent, and requested his release.
The court panel decided to reject the defendant's request for release and to continue his detention, while adjourning the hearing to October 18, 2024.
