Shocking development in the Dilan-Engin Polat case: Judge decides to recuse
An important development has occurred in the case where Dilan Polat and Engin Polat are being tried on charges of incitement. The judge presiding over the case has decided to recuse himself from the proceedings.
The judge of the Küçükçekmece 3rd Criminal Court of First Instance has decided to recuse himself from the case. The petition detailing this decision has emerged.
In the petition where Judge Recep Baş explained the reasons for his recusal in detail, he alleged that Dilan Polat's lawyer, Hüseyin Kaya, pressured him to meet privately.
The judge stated that he rejected the lawyer's requests regarding events that occurred during and after the hearing, but that Attorney Kaya continued his persistent behavior.
According to the report by Müslim Sarıyar from Halktv, the petition states that Attorney Hüseyin Kaya wanted to meet with the judge in his chambers, but Judge Baş refused this request. It is alleged that upon this, Attorney Kaya used the expression, "Can someone who informs me that I cannot see the file under any circumstances except for lawyers look into my office?" and entered the judge's office without permission.
The petition also included claims that the lawyer attempted to belittle the judge with statements such as, "What do you mean you cannot meet, you are not a judge."
