Significant step on the Turkey–Saudi Arabia front: Are visas being lifted?

A significant step that will directly affect travel between Turkey and Saudi Arabia is expected to be taken. According to information based on diplomatic sources, the mutual lifting of visa requirements between the two countries is being planned.

CRITICAL MEETING IN ANKARA

As reported by Reuters, Hakan Fidan and Faisal bin Farhan will meet at the Turkey-Saudi Coordination Council meeting to be held in Ankara on Wednesday, May 6.

It was stated that the agreement lifting the visa requirement for travel by citizens of the two countries is expected to be formalized during this meeting.

ORDINARY PASSPORTS ALSO INCLUDED

It was noted that the prepared visa exemption agreement will cover not only diplomatic passport holders but also citizens holding ordinary (maroon) passports.

It was recorded that the protocol is envisioned to be signed following official contacts.

THE BROADEST STEP OF THE NORMALIZATION PROCESS

According to experts, this step is considered one of the most comprehensive developments in the normalization process that has gained momentum between Turkey and Saudi Arabia in recent years.

Visa liberalization is not the only item on the agenda of the high-level contacts in Ankara. It was stated that regional developments will also be discussed during the meetings.

The two ministers are expected to reiterate their messages regarding the de-escalation of tensions in Iran. Furthermore, it was reported that developments around the Strait of Hormuz, which is of critical importance for global energy security, will be evaluated and that the necessity of preventing new tensions in the region will be emphasized.
