Sinan Ateş murder: Tolgahan Demirbaş’s striking connections within the Police Department!

The murder of former Ülkü Ocakları President Sinan Ateş, who was killed in an armed attack in Ankara on December 30, 2022, remains a prominent issue on the agenda.

Sözcü columnist İsmail Saymaz has penned an article regarding the connections within the Police Department of Tolgahan Demirbaş, a detained former Ülkü Ocakları executive accused of being an instigator in the Sinan Ateş murder.

In Saymaz’s article, the individuals Demirbaş was in contact with within the Police Department are summarized as follows:

“Former Ankara Homicide Bureau Commissioner Mustafa Ensar Aykal. Aykal provided Demirbaş with Ateş’s address and the license plate of his lawyer, Ali Yücel. Aykal and Demirbaş spoke three times the day before the assassination and twice after the assassination. Aykal is the only police officer being tried in the Sinan Ateş case.

Commissioner Talha Atalay from the Ankara Traffic Registration Bureau spoke with Demirbaş six times the day before the assassination and four times the day after. On December 31, 2022, Atalay sent the Police Department’s intelligence note regarding the assassination to Demirbaş, writing, 'He came after the incident yesterday, chief.'

Former Ankara Deputy Chief of Public Order Oğuz Kaan Akyüz is among those who had the most frequent contact with Demirbaş. Akyüz called Demirbaş on December 21. On December 28, Demirbaş called Akyüz twice. On December 29, Demirbaş spoke with Akyüz twice. On December 30, 20 minutes after the assassination, at 14:22, Akyüz called. They spoke for 48 seconds. Akyüz is currently the Deputy Police Chief of Altındağ.

Demirbaş frequently requested license plate information from former Ankara Deputy Police Chief Alp Arslan. Arslan did not say 'no,' but rather looked into it and followed up. Demirbaş invited Arslan to an iftar dinner on April 18–19, 2022.”
