Sinan Oğan reacts to Ümit Özdağ's detention order: 'Harmful to our democracy'

In a post on his social media account, Sinan Oğan stated the following:

The detention of Victory Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ in Ankara and his transfer to Istanbul due to an investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on the grounds that he insulted President Erdoğan during his speech at the Victory Party's 4th Provincial Chairmen's Workshop in Antalya is unacceptable.

The detention of a political party leader on the grounds that there was an insult in a speech they made has no contribution to our country and our democracy, and cannot have one.

Instead of the method of rapid detention for accusations and insults made against politicians and/or offices, including the President, normal judicial processes should be followed.

In such a sensitive process, we never, ever approve of such detentions that will raise social tension, and we find them extremely harmful to our democracy.

On this occasion, I convey my best wishes for a speedy recovery to Victory Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ.
