Slovak Prime Minister Fico, who was attacked, is reported to be out of critical condition

Slovak Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Robert Kalinak announced that Prime Minister Robert Fico, who was seriously wounded in an armed attack on May 15, is no longer in critical condition.

Kalinak made the statement at the Roosevelt Hospital in Banska Bystrica, where Fico is receiving treatment.

Providing information on Fico's health status, Kalinak said, "Following the medical check-up this morning, we can say that the patient's life is no longer in danger. However, his condition remains very serious, and he needs a long period of time and rest to recover. We have full faith that everything will go well."

Kalinak stated that there are no plans to transfer Fico to another hospital in the near future, noting that this is currently not possible, and added that the hospital will share regular updates regarding his health status in the coming days.

ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT

Fico was subjected to an armed attack while greeting those waiting for him in front of the building following a Cabinet meeting in the town of Handlova, approximately 200 kilometers from the capital, Bratislava.

According to the national press, it was reported that the attack was carried out by a 71-year-old left-leaning Slovak citizen named Juraj C. because he did not approve of the government's policies.

Fico, who was struck by multiple bullets, was transported by air ambulance to the Roosevelt Hospital in the Banska Bystrica region for emergency intervention to avoid loss of time.
