Snow and sleet warning for Ankara and Istanbul

Cold and rainy weather arriving from the Balkans is intensifying across the country starting today.

According to the latest assessments by the General Directorate of Meteorology, rain is expected on the coasts, while sleet and snow are expected in the northern, inner, and eastern parts of the country until Sunday, March 1, 2026.

The rainy weather is expected to move toward the Eastern Black Sea region and leave the country on Sunday, March 1, 2026. Temperatures, which will drop across the country starting today, are expected to remain below seasonal norms after the precipitation ends on Sunday. The General Directorate of Meteorology has warned citizens against fog and mist in the inner parts of the country.

Precipitation in Istanbul will continue until Friday noon

In Istanbul, sleet and snow are expected in high-altitude areas and the northern parts of the city tonight. The precipitation is expected to continue intermittently until noon on Friday, February 27, 2026.

Snowfall possible in Ankara tomorrow

The precipitation that began this morning in the capital is expected to continue as sleet and snow in high-altitude areas. With the drop in temperatures on Thursday, February 26, 2026 (tomorrow), short-term snowfall is also forecast for the city center.
