Snowfall paralyzes traffic in Istanbul: Vehicle density on the E-5 is increasing

The snowfall, which has been effective across Istanbul since the morning hours, has led to disruptions in traffic. As of 16:00, heavy traffic began on the E-5 highway. It was reported that traffic density across Istanbul has risen above 70 percent.

The snowfall, which has increased its intensity across the city, caused difficult moments for drivers, while traffic density rose on main arteries. The General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM) of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change issued a heavy snowfall warning for Istanbul. In the statement by the MGM, it was reported that heavy snowfall is expected across Istanbul tomorrow (February 20). The MGM warned drivers to be cautious against icing and frost.

The snowfall, which began in the higher elevations of Istanbul in the morning hours, showed its effect in wider areas in the following hours. The precipitation, which intensified in the northern regions of the European Side, also made itself felt in the city center.

DRIVERS FACED DIFFICULTIES

Vehicles struggled to move due to snow accumulation on main roads. While slippery surfaces caused accidents, some drivers were forced to park their vehicles on the side of the road. Drivers who could not proceed on the Hasdal Road waited, and similar situations were experienced on the Beykoz Riva road.

Visibility decreased in regions where precipitation was heavy, such as Sultangazi and Arnavutköy. The severe precipitation negatively affected driving safety.
