Social media trolls are at it again

As reactions to the scandal at the Super Cup Final grow, insolent posts have also begun to appear on social media.

Trolls known for their hostility toward Atatürk have drawn significant backlash with the messages they published.

Social media trolls Fatih Tezcan and Mert Armağan, known for taking every opportunity to disparage Atatürk and the values of the Republic, have once again made provocative posts.

Tezcan, who previously received a prison sentence for the crime of 'insulting Atatürk,' accused Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray—who refused to take the field after Saudi Arabia did not permit Atatürk-themed t-shirts at the Super Cup Final—of serving the CHP.

Tezcan drew criticism for the post he made on his social media account regarding the incident, which sparked reactions across all of Turkey.

In his post, Tezcan stated,

"Everyone knew the National Anthem would be played, and the TFF had announced it. Stirring up trouble over an Atatürk t-shirt, knowing full well it was not in the match protocol, is nothing more than staged populism. We are watching a mass consolidation effort that benefits the CHP ahead of the elections. That is the issue."

Another notorious social media troll, Mert Armağan, also drew backlash with his post.

Armağan, who posted, "I think it is absurd to take the field at the Super Cup match with a picture of Mustafa Kemal. You wouldn't see an Edward poster at a Liverpool-Manchester United match because they don't see the need. Go out, read our honorable National Anthem, play, and move on," faced a massive backlash from social media users.
