Soldier who participated in the July 15 coup attempt captured
A fugitive convict, who was wanted with a finalized prison sentence of 13 years and 4 months for participating in the July 15 coup attempt while serving as a specialist sergeant in Kars, has been captured in Adana.
During the July 15 coup attempt, former Specialist Sergeant Serdal Bağcılar (33), who was stationed in Kars, acted in concert with coup-plotting armored units and was subsequently dismissed from the military due to his ties to the terrorist organization FETÖ/PDY.
Following his dismissal, Bağcılar was arrested by the court.
A lawsuit was filed against Bağcılar on charges of "attempting to overthrow the constitutional order." After spending 4 years in prison, he was released to be tried without detention.
Bağcılar was sentenced to 13 years and 4 months in prison in the case in which he was tried. Instead of surrendering, the FETÖ-linked soldier fled.
Teams from the Adana Police Department's Counter-Terrorism Branch identified the address where the fugitive convict was hiding in the Yüreğir district.
Police captured Serdal Bağcılar in an operation at the house where he was hiding.
The suspect, who was referred to the courthouse after his processing at the police station, was subsequently sent to prison.
